I highly recommend Northwest Airlines. My grandfather flies to South Africa frequently, and that airline can fly there with the least stops.
you can also try south african airways, but you'd have to completely change terminals at an international airport, and you don't want that.
Check out expedia or travelocity, though. see which airline flies there, but trust me. Don't book flights there. I've learned that the hard way.

if you go to peru, don't do it. 60% of buses are poorly maintained.
if you are in central america, it is safe. i have been on bus everytime i go to guatemala and el salvador, the streets are in good shape there. and the crime isn't as bad as portrayed on TV.
peru and bolivia are the worst countries to take buses in though. they are mountainous countries, if you are in argentina, brazil, or other countries, you are safe, just keep jewelry and electronics concealed. its like riding public transportation here

Lima is a hub to Lan, Taca and Copa so yes, it could be cheap to travel from Lima. If you want a reliable, safe bus company try Ormeño (www.grupormeno.com.pe)

The cheapest way is flying. Walking / driving or whatever will cost you more in the end.

Book your flights early to avoid buying seats last minute when prices are high. Check with BA, they usually have good prices and they are usually refundable or changeable with a small fee - unlike other airlines. They also fly direct.

Check into a B&B in a good residential area for security or even, most 4 star hotels are not as expensive due to the exchange rate. Book a room with 2 singles and split the cost.

Hope you enjoy yourselves, and behave if you haven't been before it wont be like going to a match in holland or somewhere like that. High crime is expected, you will be good targets for thieves, so take care.

This is pretty standard procedure, and you will always see this when you lose something that had value to you, but not to the insurance company. This doesn't mean that you have to accept it though.. I have worked at a costumer service for years, and if there's one thing I learned it's that complaining helps. Companies hate bad publicity and will often try to make a compromise with you. You might not get your suitcase fully repaid, but I think you'll be able to settle it in some way that you get more out of it.

As for the back problems, can't you take a stroller? If you lose 60 Euros on the deal, this means that your suitcase costed you 600 Euros right? This seams awfully expensive. Even if you get only 540 back, just buy a 100-200 Euro one, they are fine and won't cause you back probems if you have a stroller.

I will give you a link to some more information about selecting a good suitcase, I don't know if you want it, but it's just a suggestion :)

Good luck with Easyjet!

Try an all-inclusive resort stay or maybe a cruise ship. I would recommend Cancun/Cozumel or The Bahamas. I haven't been to Bermuda though. These places are great and have several things such as historical sites plus great weather and beaches.

No, sorry. This August I'm flying to New York!!! But dont be afraid to travel on your own, stick to known places, read your Lonely Planet guide and do some research before you come to South America. Someone said going to Patagonia, I agree it's the most lovely place in the earth but not in August when its the middle of winter and you freeze like a popsicle.
Check the tons of resolved questions in all of the countries you will visit, I am sure you will find a lot of answers to your own queries.

It doesn't take a U-turn, it's the way the map is drawn. To project a 3d globe onto a 2d flat map requires distortion, particularly at the poles. Thus what looks like a curve or a U-turn on a map is actually a straight line between two points.

This ignores such factors as weather and flight paths (like roadways but in the sky), both of which will affect the exact routing.

There is also the sea factor - depending on the aircraft, the plane always has to be within a certain time limit of an airport should an emergency occur. However, this particular route doesn't have so much of an issue.
