• How To Make The Most Of Holidays To Mexico

While many people live to work, Mexicans work to live. That could be all I need to say about this vivacious and energetic nation yet there is so much more to this Central American country than first meets the eye.

Mexicans are lovers of free time and socialising, with family and friends being their main priority in life. The mother in any Mexican family is honoured and respected by the whole family and children in Mexico are doted upon. This gives you an idea of the kind of reception you will receive in this enigmatic and colourful country, where a warm hospitable welcome is always found on holidays to Mexico and a party is only a salsa beat away.

On the Pacific coast you can see elephant seals and spectacular grey whales that breed and give birth in these waters year after year, while the Caribbean shoreline has stunning coral reefs that come to life with sea creatures great and small.

Cancun is the perfect example of colourful Mexican life with a string of first class hotels lining the coast along the clear Caribbean waters. Water sports are readily available with some fantastic snorkelling and scuba dive sites taking you to the world’s second largest coral reef just off the coast of Cancun. Or visit the Nichupte Lagoon side with its trendy waterside eateries, music bars and romantic restaurants.

The best way to portray Cozumel would be to describe it as having a Mexican spirit with Caribbean soul; a beautiful little island just off the coast of Playa del Carmen with excellent beaches and an abundance of water sports. The interior of the island is immersed in colourful jungle foliage and swampy lagoons, and is home to hundreds of tiny mammals and exotic birds, characteristic to this part of the world. The southern tip is a protected area where marine turtles nest and rear their young. Cozumel is ideal for honeymooners due to its more relaxed pace of life and breathtaking sunsets watched from secluded beaches along the Caribbean shoreline.

Puerto Vallarta, over on the Pacific coast is a gastronomical delight and home to many of Mexico’s top chefs. Here you’ll be tempted by anything from regional Mexican cuisine and varied international delights in first class restaurants, to wonderful traditional tacos served from authentic stands along the stunning seafront. Puerto Vallarta is full of Mexican fun with water sports, hiking, biking, eco-tours, horse riding, tennis, golf, the once in a lifetime chance to swim with dolphins and a night life that pulsates to a Latin beat.

The lesser known and relatively new tourist destination on holidays to Mexico is the wonderful Huatulco. Scattered along 20 miles of Pacific coastline this area is gently broken into individual bays with Bahia de Santa Cruz, Bahia Chahue and Bahia Tangolunda all sparkling little gems just waiting to be discovered. Huatulco has everything covered from excellent water sports, cosmopolitan marinas, trendy restaurants, golf, horse riding and a fascinating ecological park called Rufino Tamayo.

Whichever part of Mexico you choose to visit and whatever you are looking for on your holidays to Mexico, you’ll be treated to a wonderful blend of friendly hospitality, colourful entertainment and an insight into a fabulous laid back way of life, injected with an infectious salsa beat and all topped off with tantalising tequila cocktails.
